Vestibular Rehabilitation for Children

Your child hasn’t been feeling like themself recently. Maybe they’ve told you their world is spinning and they’re feeling nauseous. Maybe you’ve noticed they’re struggling to keep up with their friends, are having a hard time in class, or have been clumsy recently. As a parent or caregiver, you want to do the best you can for your child and you’re not quite sure what to do right now to help them out.

Your child can feel better and helping them doesn’t have to be complicated.

Children aren't little adults. Your child’s needs, interests, and motivation are different than ours. I understand helping your child improve comes from knowing what they are interested in and what motivates them. So whether it's keeping up with their friends, getting back to sports, or feeling more comfortable reading in class, I will work with your family to help them reach those goals.

The Wave Physiotherapy Approach

1

We’ll start with a detailed review of your child’s current symptoms (such as vertigo, dizziness, nausea, being off balance), medical history, and what they want to get back to doing. Knowing what has been different since your child started to have issues and what is important to them going forward assists with guiding the assessment and their treatment plan.

2

We’ll complete a thorough assessment of your child’s vestibular system, including the use of child-sized infrared goggles. This lets me assess how their vestibular system is working and identifies where the symptoms your child is experiencing are coming from. Having a diagnosis will help to give you peace of mind.

3

We’ll review the assessment findings and I’ll explain what these results mean. I’ll give you the chance to ask questions and we’ll talk about the treatment plan for your child, so you know what the best plan going forward is. And we’ll get started right away! Treatment may include hands-on techniques or exercises for your child to do at home.
