Orthopaedic Physiotherapy
You’ve had an injury, and now stiffness and pain are keeping you from the workouts you love. Maybe you’re feeling less flexible and it’s been harder to do your everyday activities. You’ve looked up a few exercises to try at home and you just aren’t seeing the improvement you expected after trying things on your own. Seeing a physiotherapist with training in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions can help!
You can feel better and it doesn’t have to be hard.
No matter what has led to you looking for a physiotherapy clinic, you can be sure I will work with you to get to the root of what is going on and develop a plan to get you back to feeling like yourself again. Physiotherapy sessions are always one-on-one with a physiotherapist, appointments are never double-booked so you are my sole focus, and you’ll never be given a cookie-cutter exercise plan. Your care will be individualized to meet your needs.
I’m here to help you reach your goals.
Getting back to what you love again is possible and the process to get there doesn’t have to be complicated. Having a thorough evaluation to have a better understanding of what is going on and where your time will be best spent with exercise guides your physiotherapy recovery plan.
I work with folks with:
loss of movement, joint stiffness, and muscle pain from arthritis
lower back, upper back, and neck pain
loss of strength, pain, and stiffness after a fracture of the wrist, ankle, and more
recent (acute) injuries, including ligament sprains and muscle strains at the shoulder, wrist, knee, ankle, and more
chronic injuries that just haven’t fully healed or are easily re-injured
TMJ/jaw pain, clicking or stiffness
surgery booked who need pre-operative or post-operative care for their shoulder, knee, hip, foot, and more
The Wave Physiotherapy Approach
1
I'll start with a detailed health history, have you tell me more about what’s brought you in for a physiotherapy appointment, and ask about what you’re wanting to get back to doing again. Having a good understanding of what’s important to you and what you’ve been feeling guides what to look at during the physical exam.
2
I'll take you through a thorough orthopaedic examination. This might include functional movements (like squats or reaching overhead), mobility and strength evaluations, testing your nervous system (e.g. reflexes), and taking a feel of the area that you’re having trouble with. It’s common during the assessment to experience the issue you’ve come to the clinic for, and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I'll use what brings on your symptoms as a way to track how your recovery is going.
3
We’ll talk about the assessment findings, what these results mean, and what the plan to help you feel better looks like. Depending on the type of condition, your session may include hands-on treatment to improve joint mobility or soft tissue extensibility, education to help you with managing your symptoms, acupuncture or dry needling to help with pain management, and an active program for home to work on until your next appointment.
